Alarm Systems
One of the most effective burglar deterrants you can invest in is an alarm system, and there are seveal choices.
Infrared movement detectors (also known as PIR's) are fitted in the corner of a room and they will activate the alarm is the alarm is set and movement is detected in the room.
Magnetic contact detectors installed on doors or windows will make the alarm sound if the alarm is set and the door or window is opened.
Most alarms systems will use a mixture of these devices to keep your property safe. You will also get a control box (to set the alarm) and an external sounder (bell) and/or flashing light.
Wireless alarms are easier to install and work in exactly the same way.
For additional security, the alarm system can be connected to a remote alarm monitoring centre who will be able to respond to an alarm (i.e. call the polcie) if you are away from your property.
