We are keeping more and more valuable equipment in our garages today, and they tend to be fairly easy to break into!

> The majority of us now have household alarms fitted, consider (if you can) extending the alarm to the garage, or use a standalone alarm system.

> Fit a garage door blocker on the outside of the door.  These devices bolt permanently to the floor, has a large "T" chapes restrictor and a good quality locking device.  Failing that, consider a good quality lasp and padlock.  As long as a burgular see's that you are taking an effort to be secure, they are more likely to leave your property alone.

> Special garage door locks are also useful.  These can be securely locked from the inside and outside of the garage for added convienience.

> Install deadbolts mounted at each side of the garage door or locking into the floor on the inside.  These can be positioned for that when locked from the inside opening the door from the outside is virtually impossible.

> Various excellent quality "up and over" and "rolling" deadlocking door handles can be bought now that replace the inadequet locks that most garage door are provided with as standard.

> Consider buying loop cables.  These have long braided steel cables and two-bolt anchor locking points attached to them.  The fix to garage walls and floors securely and permanently and can be passed though expensive garage items such as bike, ladders, power tools etc so that they cannot be removed.  Some of these are now alarmed.
